Vaccines For Restaurant Workers

All food service and front line workers are are eligible for vaccines on Monday, April 5th! This opportunity is long awaited and we are thrilled to see our community finally eligible. Vaccinations are FREE, and you need not have proof of citizenship to receive one. Unfortunately you need to think of getting a vaccine appointment like you'd think of scoring a pre-sale ticket to your favorite band. Here are some suggestions:

UPDATE vaccine appointments available in PORTLAND: The City of Portland is hosting a drive through vaccine clinic on 122nd and Sandy Friday, April 30th and Saturday, May 1st. Their goal is to serve Portland communities of color, immigrants and refugees. They will have on-site interpretation at this clinic in many top languages, as well as remote video chat interpretation. This clinic will be every Friday and Saturday for the foreseeable future and we will be posting new links here.

Take these steps if you are outside of Portland.

  1. Sign up on getvaccinated.oregon.gov

  2. Create an account at Walgreens, and set your alarm, vaccine appointments seem to be posted at 5am daily.

  3. Safeway, Rite Aid, and Fred Meyer will all have large quantities of vaccines next week and don’t require accounts to make an appointment. If you can schedule now for next week, do it! Each of these pharmacies will also let you schedule for another person.

  4. If you are in or around Salem the fairground site releases appointments, MWF at noon. And they allow a limited number of walk ins, best time to arrive for those is 3pm. Appointments for Salem are here. mychart.salemhealth.org/mychart/covid19/#/

  5. Try utilizing this online vaccine locator to find an appointment near you.

Each County health department will also provide information on how and where to schedule a vaccination appointment. We’ve provided some links to the counties where we have the most email list subscribers, if you don’t see your county listed, don’t fret they are easy to find online.

All of these sites should update today or tonight to make it clear that you are eligible if you work in a restaurant, bar, grocery, transit, any place where you can't be 6 feet away from your co-worker or customer.

And to all the employers reading this note, we do hope you will be supportive of your teams in this process, vaccine clinics operate during limited hours, often include long waits, and the side effects can result in needing a day off to recover.
